Church Giving FAQ
Q: What is Together for Sheffield?
Together for Sheffield is a multi-denominational Christian charity passionate about giving every person in Sheffield the opportunity to know and experience the love of Jesus.
Our journey began over a decade ago under the name Sheffield Crosslinks, and in 2019 we became Together for Sheffield. Since then, we have been working with church leaders and their communities to coordinate citywide prayer, service, and mission.
We seek to empower every believer in Sheffield to be salt and light in our city by powering the monthly Sheffield Leaders in Prayer meetings, the Arise Sheffield prayer and mission movement, and the Ascend young adult employment programme.
Q: What is Sheffield Leaders in Prayer?
Together for Sheffield brings together church leaders from all denominations to pray and share a meal every month. This gathering, called Sheffield Leaders in Prayer, is now the largest ecumenical gathering of church leaders in Sheffield. It engages between 40-80 leaders every month and has become a powerful force for unity and collaboration between churches and believers.
Q: What is Arise Sheffield, and how did it start?
Out of Sheffield Leaders in Prayer came a vision to invite every believer to prayer-walk their local areas, uniting in a citywide month of prayer for Sheffield. This vision has grown into Arise Sheffield, a movement that connects churches, emboldens believers, and develops disciples through regular prayer and mission events. Over 1700 believers from more than 170 churches across Sheffield have already joined this community.
Q: How has Arise impacted believers in Sheffield?
Arise Sheffield has had a profound impact on the lives of those who have participated in its events. In fact, 34% of Arise:March participants reported that they have grown in their relationship with God and feel that their faith is strengthened. 65% feel more connected with their local area, 24% are more confident in sharing their faith with others, and 16% are more confident in offering prayer for others.
Q: Why did you start the Ascend Employment Programme?
Through our relationships with church leaders, we commissioned the Faith Action Audit in 2018 to discover how churches and other faith groups in Sheffield were serving the city. We celebrated churches’ successes at a major citywide event attended by the Mayor, members of the Council, Police, Parliament, and other civic bodies.
During this audit, we discovered that there was a real opportunity for churches to tackle youth unemployment, and so we launched Ascend. Ascend helps unemployed young adults in Sheffield find meaningful work and a chance to explore faith by connecting them with a supportive Christian community of trainers, mentors, and advocates. This programme has seen incredible success, with 80% of the 65 young adults who participated in it finding meaningful work. Several of them have been baptised and continue to attend churches in Sheffield.
Q: Why do you need churches to give regularly to Together for Sheffield?
We have been fortunate enough to receive support from a small number of generous local believers, but we need your help to make our vision for Sheffield a reality. With your support, we can continue to fund and grow our Arise and Ascend projects. Investing with us in this vision for Sheffield with just £100 a month will secure the future of these vital initiatives and transform the lives of countless people in our city.
Q: How can giving to Together for Sheffield benefit my church community?
Partnering with Together for Sheffield can transform your church community as well. The Ascend and Arise projects offer opportunities for believers in your community to grow in faith and boldness through citywide prayer, mission, and service projects. Some churches use Arise campaigns as springboards for their own prayer and mission events. Ascend empowers Christian mentors to connect with unemployed young adults, and to see their workplace experience and professional network as gifts they can use for God.
